I settled on 2 3/8" holes in the back baffle. Beware that there are 2 spot welds that hold the internal baffle in place, besides the rivets (on my '97 at least), and if you drill through them, you could end up with a rattling mess. I painted it off with some high-temperature paint meant for gas grills, and it looks well. I think the loud-factor is just about right for me. The little girls in the neighborhood think it's loud, but none of the cops give me any hassle. I'm not sure I would have even done this, except for my Harley-riding brother (himself a policeman) who said that I had to do something about that sound. Anyway, it's a fun project and costs nothing. I contemplated buying a Jardine or Supertrapp muffler, but they're expensive and don't have the heat shield that the stock one does. But most of all, have fun and ride safe! ;-) Skeeter
